Description: Atlantic Rim is a coalbed methane field for APC (and others) and we currently have 2-3 rigs running. Students will be shown 2 kinds of rigs, both a coiled hybrid rig and a conventional rotary rig. Also, we may be able to show the students some other operational aspects of the field. We will be providing safety glasses, hard hats, and ear protection.
The students will need to wear long pants and sturdy shoes, such as hiking boots or equivalent.
Field Trip #2 - Hanna Basin. 8:00 AM 4:30 PM. Topics to be discussed will include the general stratigraphy in the region and structural controls on the basin. On the trip, outcrops that show stratigraphic and structural heterogeneities will be viewed and a discussion about why this can be important for production and how these reservoir characteristics might be predicted and constrained will also be discussed. Time provided, the trip will also include the viewing of trace fossils, including those of marine invertebrates and dinosaurs.
Hiking boots are not necessary, but strudy, closed-toe shoes are highly recommended (trip will include a small amount of walking & hiking). A boxed lunch will be provided for all participants (limit 40).
